Technique Thursday |I have no time for a HHJ

When I look at people’s hair progressions, I think, man I should have started this healthy hair ages ago! However when I did start researching wow the level of information and time it appeared to take, was so overwhelming.

I have now started a hair journey and after months of doing what my hair crushes were doing, I soon burnt out…Saturday morning was a full working wash day. The prepooing, that you started overnight, shampooing, tea rinse, jump out the shower, remove excess water, DC for 3 hours, jump back into the shower, rinse out, ACV rinse, t-shirt drying, leave in, roller setting, sit under hooded drier for hours then M&S, three times a day, after it’s gone part Saturday midnight you are done! Phew!

Then you see others are doing this twice a week! Boy can it be intimidating, plus all the exotic hair products that you have to get!

You will be happy to know you can be on a ‘lazy’ hair journey

Wash Days

1.       These don’t need to be done bi-weekly, once a week will do just fine

2.       DC on dry hair, this avoids jumping in and out the shower

3.       You don’t have to DC hair for 3 hours, with heat 15-30 mins will do just fine

4.       You don’t need to do the tea rinses, ACV rinses, aloe vera rinse every wash day

5.       You don’t need to roller set your hair every wash day

Your wash day can be as quick as this

Prepoo (15mins) >> DC on dry hair 15 - 30 mins with heat >> Shampoo hair >> T-shirt dry >> leave in and air dry.

M&S can be minimised to when you hair needs it and bag you hair at night to retain the moisture, can also count down the times you M&S.

Personally in between the week I protect style for the whole week, so hey, I don’t even need to comb my hair!

As for products, you don’t need the whole shop floor

1.       An oil – for you prepooing and sealing

2.       Shampoo

3.       Moisturising Deep Conditioner

4.       Protein treatment

5.       Leave in conditioner

6.       Moisturiser

7.       Heat Protectant

What tips and tricks do you have that have helped you through those lazy times?

  1. I love these tips, but some hair types need more cares than others. I have extremely dry hair which hates protein and loves water. I wash my hair once a week with shampoo, but by the time the week is almost over, I have to co-wash it. Thanks for the tips.

  2. Great tips, the last few months has been hectic for me so I skip steps like pre pooing once I'm using a sulphate free shampoo and I don't DC for as long as I used to, I do 15- 20 minutes when I'm pressed for time.

    1. I have also just added back prepooing into my wash days, but I used to do the same as you, no sulphate poo, no prepoo! Anything for a quick and still effective washday.

  3. Great post Yvonne..There have been times I put off wash days BC I just didnt wanna be bothered with all the steps and ins and outs of the bathroom. I will say its VERy important to assess what your haird needs at every wash day. Some days we'll need to got through those 50-11 steps and others a good co-wash and DC will do.

  4. Good stuff.

I'll definitely try DCing I dry hair and using heat for 10,15 minutes.

I cut down time for "wash day" by now washing my hair every 2 weeks, 1.5 weeks or when I think there's buildup or itching and I use a water +acv mix to spritz my hair then let it air dry instead of doing an act rinse.

    1. Definitely give the dry DC a try, hopefully you will love it just as much as I do! Anything that cuts down washday time is a bonus in my books!

  5. Great tips! I adjusted my washdays to skip jumping in and out the shower. I had an emergency co-wash session today which i haven't done in ages but my hair feels so much better now. Moisture was what it needed.

    1. The joys of understanding your hair! I have had one of those emergency co wash days, and they do really save the day/week!

  6. Hi Yvonne, thanks for linking up with me. I love your tips. It doesn't have to be a full working days worth of a regi. It can be simple and to the point. Less is more sometimes. Full day regis are exhausting and lead to burnout very quickly.
